What this site is

My Gravel Calculator provides browser-based calculators that convert an area and a depth into a material volume, weight and cost estimate. It is an aid to planning a purchase. It is not a design service, an engineering service, a construction specification, or professional advice of any kind.

Estimates, not measurements

The volume figures the calculators produce are exact arithmetic on the numbers you type. The weight, bag-count and cost figures are not: they depend on a density value, and material density varies with rock type, particle size, moisture, washing and how a supplier loads and compacts its trucks.

The densities offered as presets are typical values from the range used across the landscape supply trade. They are deliberately editable, and they are deliberately presented as estimates rather than authoritative constants. Real deliveries routinely differ from a typical figure by 10–15%, and wet material can differ by considerably more.

Always confirm quantities and weights with your own supplier before ordering. Their tons-per-cubic-yard figure — the one they actually bill by — is the number that governs what shows up on your invoice and on your driveway.

Site conditions and measurement

The calculators assume a level surface, uniform depth and a rectangle or circle you have measured accurately. Real ground is none of these things. Slopes, ruts, settlement, compaction, subgrade that swallows the first inch of stone, and simple mismeasurement all move the true quantity. Where material is being compacted or a bed will settle, use the allowance fields, and where the result matters, add a margin on top of that.

No warranty

The site and its calculators are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including any implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy or non-infringement. We do not warrant that the site will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any figure it produces is correct for your situation.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any loss or damage arising from your use of this site or reliance on its output. That expressly includes over-ordering or under-ordering material, wasted deliveries, restocking or return charges, project delays, labour costs, and any direct, indirect, incidental, consequential or punitive damages. You are responsible for verifying quantities before you buy.

Acceptable use

You may use these calculators freely for personal or commercial estimating. You may not attempt to interfere with the site's operation or security, use automated systems to place unreasonable load on it, or reproduce the site's written content wholesale on another site. Ordinary linking is welcome.

Intellectual property

The text, page design, tables and calculator code on this site belong to their author. Numerical facts — conversion factors, coverage figures, density ranges — are facts and are free for anyone to use. The units and formulas themselves are, of course, nobody's property.

Third-party services

The site loads Google Analytics 4 for audience measurement, and is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Those services operate under their own terms. The site carries no advertising. How analytics data is handled is described in the privacy policy.

Changes

These terms may be revised from time to time; the current version always sits on this page with its date at the top. Material changes take effect when published, and continued use of the site after that constitutes acceptance.
